“If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.” Dr. Kennell

Who I am...

My pregnancy journey started with a Gynecologist, who through a very scary first few months of bleeding every few days did not support me well, I then switched gynaes, this one was much more available and supportive however told me at every scan that my baby was too big for a normal delivery.

At 27 weeks my husband and I made the decision to move to a midwife, I had never heard of a doula before this, but knew I wanted a mother and baby led birth, in an environment that was not fear driven. My midwife suggested a doula, we went with her guidance, and were so grateful we did. My birth experience was incredible, I felt supported and empowered. I joke now and say I would have a baby everyday just to feel that way over and over again...

My experience led me to want to be there to support other women through their pregnancy journeys and hold space for them as they birth their babies and themselves as they birth into the role of  mother.

I experienced first hand how important the right doula support during pregnancy, birth and postnatally is and so I studied to become a doula...

There is nothing more sacred than the opportunity to bear witness to a women become a mother, whether it is her first child or her fourth, to be the first to experience the first breath of a brand new life, to learn the different cultural traditions in welcoming the child, to know that you have supported the process in a women feeling empowered during her birthing process and can look back feeling whole, this, brings me an immense amount of joy.

What I do...

Doula is a Greek word which is translated as a ‘woman’s servant’.

Women have for years and years supported each other in birth and labour, our ancestors birthed with the help of a circle of women who would serve the birthing woman by holding space for her as her baby entered the world.

As your doula I will provide both physical and emotional support. I will support you and your partner from pregnancy right up to the post-natal period, including being there for your labour whether it be a home birth, birth centre, public hospital or private hospital birth.

How I can help you...

I will provide you with information to help you make informed decisions about your birth. Focusing 100% on you and your partner during labour, as your doula I will provide support using massage, relaxation and visualization techniques. I am passionate about a woman’s natural ability to birth her baby and will help you to feel confident and in control of your experience. Studies have shown that having a doula reduces the use of medical interventions such as inductions, epidurals, pain medications, forceps, vacuum deliveries and Caesareans.
